RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT No company in this fast growing world can survive without research. The fact has been well understood by us & thus we always work to give the best product. Although it is well known that Ayurvedic products are free of side effects it is necessary to prove it. For this the toxicological studies on Kailas Jeevan have been undertaken. The study was designed & conducted to determine the acute toxicity of Kailas Jeevan by observing following parameter a) acute oral toxicity to Swiss Albino mice b) skin irritation potential in New Zealand White rabbits c) mucous membrane irritation potential in New Zealand White rabbits. Kailas Jeevan at the dose of 5000 mg/kg, the maximum practical dosage, did not induce any abnormal signs and did not affect the normal pattern of body weight gain in treated mice. Median lethal dose of Kailas Jeevan by oral route in Swiss Albino mice was found to be more than 5000 mg/kg. It may be noted here that extrapolation of the results of an acute oral toxicity study on rodents to humans is reasonably good for single oral doses. Following a patch test in rabbit (Draize, 1959) to assess the dermal irritancy potential, Kailas Jeevan was found to be non-irritating to both the intact and abraded skin of the albino rabbits. Kailas Jeevan did not produce any irritant effect on cornea, iris or conjunctivae of washed and unwashed eyes of albino rabbits, when applied as a single instillation following the method of Draize (1959). |
